Previously, it was under contract to Ridge Vineyards (Zinfandel) and Cakebread Cellars (Zinfandel); Randy Dunn of Dunn Vineyards takes the main portion of Cabernet Sauvignon each year and now grapes are sold to several small producers including Cornerstone Cellars and D-Cubed. Situated on the outskirts of the town of Angwin this vineyard has produced top quality Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit for over 80 vintages.
Beatty ranch is the source of the oldest Zinfandel vines in the Howell Mountain appellation. Beatty Ranch was planted to Zinfandel in the early 20th century and today still cultivates the oldest of "ancient" Howell Mountain vines. Mike Beatty has been a driving force of modern day Howell Mountain grape cultivation helping to define and secure the Napa Valley sub-appellation of Howell Mountain.
Howell Mountain Vineyards is the name for Beatty, Black & Sears Wine Co. which is owned by Mike Beatty (Beatty Ranch), Joyce Black Sears and Jerre Sears (Black-Sears Vineyard). It was formed in 1988 to produce small amounts of red "old vine" Zinfandel from their two vineyards.
